    Description

    You are bidding on inscribed signed sepia 8" x 10" photo of pianist, ARTHUR SHATTUCK (1881-1951). Photographer: Underwood & Underwood.
    SHATTUCK was born in Wisconsin and studied with T. Leschetizky from 1895-1902.
    Inscribed "To the charming and fearless Helen Raab, May she continue to reach the sky, Cordially, (signed) Arthur Shattuck.
    It is believed Helen was a Wisconsin pianist. Helen's name is written in ink on reverse of photo in different hand.
    Shattuck debut in Copenhagen, 1902, settling in Paris and toured extensively as soloist and with orchestra. Returned to the United States during World War 1. He made his debut playing the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No 1 with New York Symphony under Walter Damrosch.
    SHATTUCK knew Edward GRIEG and it was through the Norwegian composer he was invited to perform with the Royal Orchestra of Copenhagen (Denmark) the Anton Rubinstein Piano Concerto in D minor.
